Growing up I tried every sport possible. I tried everything from soccer to dance, but it wasn’t until the age of 7 that I discovered hockey through watching my brother at the rink. I have been playing hockey now for 11 years. Growing up on the island was great, due to the fact the rink was just down the street. I have played 6 years with Cowichan Valley, 2 years with Victoria Royals and 3 years in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. I decided to move to a school two provinces away to further develop my athletic and academic pursuits. Hockey has taken me all around the country and I am so grateful to be able to work with Grindstone.
Being a Grindstone award recipient, I wanted to find a way to give back. My goal is to share my story of growing up on male dominated teams and some of the struggles I faced. I also want to tell my story of moving away at such a young age and the different challenges that he come along with it. I am very passionate about Grindstone’s messages and I want to do everything I can to promote it.
