Kayla has been a long-time advocate for equality in sports and life. Growing up playing competitive hockey and lacrosse, her passion for equality grew as she recognized financial barriers for children to join sports. While attending Lakehead University for an HBA in gender studies & sociology, Kayla played on the Lakehead Thunderwolves Women’s Hockey Team and focused on giving back to her community through volunteering and fundraisers. Participating on a National and Provincial level in both hockey and lacrosse, Kayla credits her experiences in sports to many friendships, strengths, and opportunities she has today. She has assisted in coaching both hockey and lacrosse and has received numerous leadership awards for Inclusion & Community Service.
Being involved with Grindstone is an extension of her undergraduate work that encourages girls to play hockey – despite any financial barriers. By making it accessible financially, girls are free to reap the benefits that the sport has to offer.
In Kayla’s spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, travelling, spike ball, and spending time with friends.
