About Us

The Grindstone Award Foundation is an official Registered Canadian Charity that enables young female players the opportunity to participate and improve their skill development in the sport of hockey. We provide financial support to young female hockey players who have the desire to play but are unable to participate due to financial reasons. We are a grassroots movement with a vision to empower women in life and sport to improve the current state of inequality.

Become a Volunteer HR Generalist

Job Description

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing HR support to the Director of People and the Grindstone team in regards to recruitment of Board members and volunteers, volunteer information system management, team member onboarding, contracts, and any other HR processes that are required.

Start Date 

Immediately (Minimum commitment of one (1) year is preferred.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and collection of team member compliance documents such as volunteer contracts, confidentiality agreements, and appropriate criminal background checks as required (Criminal, Enhanced, Police Information and Vulnerable Sector, etc.)
  • Assist with recruiting for vacant or new roles, including building the role descriptions, identifying strong applicants, and interviewing them as required 
  • Recruiting volunteers for large-scale events (post-pandemic)
  • Collaborating with the Marketing team to ensure available opportunities are advertised on Grindstone’s various channels 
  • Onboarding of new team members, where applicable

Desired Skills, Abilities and Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in Human Resources or similar position
  • Experience in recruiting through various channels
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Excellent administrative and coordination abilities
  • Post-secondary education in business administration, human resources, social studies or relevant field will be appreciated
  • Working knowledge MS Word and Office (Excel)
  • Working knowledge of Google products – Drive, Meet, etc.
